Valin Employee of the Month

July 2024

Sales Manager
Portland, OR
Jay Van Horn’s multifaceted contributions to Valin are impressive and exemplify a commitment that goes beyond traditional sales. His proactive efforts in several key areas highlight his dedication to enhancing both internal processes and customer experience.

Jay’s initiative in developing a program to improve the customer experience for building and construction contractors demonstrates his understanding of the customer journey and his dedication to meeting their needs effectively. By collaborating with the Process Heat Customer Service team, Jay has not only outlined critical commercial and technical events but also established clear response requirements and service level commitments.

Another example was Jay taking the initiative to create a custom 'pricing guide' for Heat Trace and panel-related business. Jay manages all touchpoints of the customer eco-system including end-users, fabs, electrical, mechanical, and general contractors and integrators. Each requires a custom approach toward pricing and project management that deviates from our standard pricing procedures and often fluctuates based on the project scope or contract award. Jay developed this guide as an aid for customer service to alleviate any incorrect quoting, pricing, or shipping and freight estimates.

Lastly, Jay’s cross-training of the VES/Panel Shop technician teams and sharing of his manufacturing expertise has added significant value to Valin’s operations. His ability to bridge sales, operational, and manufacturing functions ensures a cohesive approach to project management, build quality, and pre/post-sales support. This kind of knowledge sharing, and hands-on support is instrumental in driving overall performance and maintaining high standards.

Jay's contributions at a minimum reflect the 'greasing of the gears' allowing all teams and departments to function cohesively to deliver a service that sets us apart from our competitors. Jay's contributions set an example for future sales team members to strive for.
